Jennifer Lewandowska is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores our place within the more-than-human world. Informed by an embodied approach to nature, her work draws on somatic movement, meditation and sensory experience to explore states of attention, perception and connection. Working across film, food, installation, music, painting, performance and photography, her projects bring people together through gatherings and encounters with nature, often taking the form of a ritual or offering. She has exhibited and presented work widely across the UK, Europe and the USA.
Her recent paintings and drawings explore wild and poisonous flowers as subjects of beauty, potency and transformation. Working in oil on linen and soft pastel, she creates intimate encounters with plants that move between observation and intuition, exploring their sensory, symbolic and more elusive qualities.
Alongside her artistic practice, Lewandowska has been Creative Director of Glastonbury Festival Interstage since 2019, leading the design and art direction of the backstage environment behind the Pyramid Stage. She develops large-scale artworks, structures, furniture and hand-painted signage, managing a team of artists, architects and fabricators to realise the designs across the site.
A significant part of Lewandowska’s artistic practice has developed through her long-term artistic collaboration with Samuel Levack, working across film, installation, music, performance and photography. Together they co-founded French Riviera in 2011, an artist-run gallery in Bethnal Green, East London, which became a gathering place for artists, audiences and the wider creative community.
